Genotypic variation of flavonols and antioxidant capacity in broccoli

Flavonols are gaining increasing interests due to their diverse health benefits for humans. Broccoli is a main flavonol source in our diet, but the genetic variation of flavonols and correlation with antioxidant capacity remain be understood. Here, we examined variations two major kaempferol quercetin florets leaves 15 broccoli accessions by ultra-performance liquid chromatography. accumulated more than most tested, ratios varying from 4.4 27.9 0.4 florets. Total flavonoids showed 2.5-fold 3.3-fold differences these accessions, respectively. Principle component analysis revealed that flavonols, along key biosynthetic pathway genes, correlated related indicators. This study provides important information genotypic capacity, will facilitate development enriched cultivars broccoli.
